Empowering Erlanger: NatureMed Brings Education-First Cannabis Care to Northern Kentucky

Step up to the counter at the brand-new NatureMed dispensary, located at the bustling corner of Donaldson Highway and Houston Road in Erlanger, Kentucky, and you will notice something missing right away: there are no cold touchscreen kiosks, no hurried digital tablets, and no high-pressure sales tactics.

Instead, you will find a team of dedicated budtenders ready to sit down, listen, and talk.

For Amanda Brinker, NatureMed’s Retail Operations Director, that conversational, human-centric approach isn’t just a customer service preference — it is the core mission of the company’s expansion into the Commonwealth.

An Experienced Guide for Kentucky’s New Market

Brinker brings a wealth of seasoned industry experience to Northern Kentucky, having already navigated complex cannabis markets across the country, including Arizona and Missouri, where NatureMed successfully operates five stores.

Now, NatureMed is establishing a deep root system in Kentucky. The Erlanger location marks a pivotal step in a statewide rollout that began with their first dispensary opening in Paducah on April 23rd, to be followed by a third location in Murray this July, and a fourth planned for Carrollton. Beyond retail, the company is investing heavily in the state’s infrastructure with two Tier 1 cultivation facilities. NatureMed’s proprietary brands, Feno and Bonfire, are currently thriving in those facilities, with the first local harvest expected soon and packaged products slated to hit shelves before Christmas.

For now, the Erlanger dispensary is open, welcoming, and entirely focused on helping local patients navigate their wellness journeys safely.

“Education is Key”

For many Northern Kentuckians, legal medical cannabis is uncharted territory, which can bring a natural sense of hesitation.

“Education is key,” Brinker emphasizes. “Fear comes in when people don’t understand what they are using. And the reality is, cannabis is not the same for everyone. Finding the right product sometimes involves a lot of trial and error.”

To replace that fear with confidence, NatureMed emphasizes a highly digestible, education-forward approach. Rather than just looking at THC percentages, the staff guides patients through the crucial role of terpenes (the aromatic compounds that dictate a strain’s specific effects) and the entourage effect — the therapeutic synergy where cannabinoids and terpenes work together to create a more balanced, effective outcome than isolated compounds can offer.

“We’re very transparent,” says Brinker. “We are here to take care of patients and give them exactly what they need.”

What’s on the Shelves: Current Product Breakdown

Medical cannabis purchases in Kentucky are tax-free, but prices reflect the very early market. Flower and processed products across the state have started at a premium, but Brinker notes an encouraging trend: “Everything we’re getting is starting to come down.”

The current menu features high-quality options from earliest-to-market cultivator Dark Horse (offering both premium flower and gummies) and Toro gummies processed by Bison Manufacturing in Dayton, Kentucky.

Flower

Selections from Dark Horse $55 – $70

Gummies

Available in both pectin and gelatin bases $35 per 100mg package

Vaporizers

Cartridges $50 per .5 gram

A Special Focus on RSO

NatureMed is particularly passionate about introducing RSO (Rick Simpson Oil) to the local community. “We’re really big on the RSO,” Brinker explains. “It’s new for people out here.”

Unlike standard distillates — which strip away most compounds to leave pure THC — RSO is a powerful full-plant extract that’s thought to provide deep, long-lasting relief. Educating patients on the stark difference between distillate and full-spectrum RSO is a priority for the staff. Brinker notes that RSO can be a good sugar-free alternative to gummies for a lot of patients as well.

NatureMed is looking forward to expanding its inventory into topicals and tinctures as processors bring them to market, and a convenient drive-thru window is expected to come online as soon as final regulatory approval is cleared.

Navigating the Regulations

As a medical-only market, NatureMed operates under strict state guidelines to ensure community safety:

Consumption Law: Kentucky law dictates a “no combustion” policy. Smoking flower is prohibited, meaning patients must vaporize their dry herb. To support this, NatureMed stocks a wide range of dry herb vaporizers ranging from accessible $60–$100 options up to top-tier device brands like Puffco. There truly is something for every budget.

Age Restrictions: Patients must be 18 to access a dispensary. No vaporizers or inhalation devices can be sold to individuals between the ages of 18 and 21. Minor patients/children are not permitted on the dispensary property; however, a registered caregiver can legally purchase medication on their behalf.

Reciprocity: Visiting documented medical cannabis patients from other states including Ohio can purchase cannabis at NatureMed for use while they are in Kentucky. They just need to bring their ID cards, medical card documentation, and a printout of their documented qualifying condition that’s accepted in Kentucky’s program.

Community-Rooted and Ready to Grow

The Erlanger dispensary is currently powered by a team of four employees and a general manager. NatureMed utilizes its own specialized internal training program, Seed Talent, other customer care training, and Metrc (the state’s seed-to-sale tracking system).

Amanda noted that the goal within the store isn’t individual sales targets, but a collective mission. The staff operates on a bonded, collaborative model rather than a competitive one, ensuring that the patient’s well-being always comes first.

NatureMed is proud to be putting down roots in the city of Erlanger, and the feeling appears to be entirely mutual.

“We are very happy to be here in Erlanger,” Brinker shares warmly. “Mayor Jessica Fetty has been absolutely great to work with, and she even came out to celebrate our opening with us.”

As the state program matures, NatureMed’s message to Northern Kentucky is clear: the doors are open, the environment is safe, and the team is ready to talk to you about your specific needs.
